Roach: Pacquiao can retire after two fights

Freddie-RoachIf Pacquiao will follow what Freddie Roach say that he can retire after two major fights will Pacquiao follow it? For me its better to leave the ring while he is still famous and while he is still the pound by pound king. He already proven himself on how great he box in the ring and now i think its time for him to face new challenges in his life. I hope that after the Pacquiao vs Marquez 3 fight, Mayweather decides to fight Pacquaio before he quits boxing or else the boxing fans will surely miss the chance to see the fight that they are waiting for.

Here are a short list of what he can do when the time comes and he decides to leave the boxing ring.

1. Pacquiao can focus on his political career since his constituents needs him.
2. Continue his acting career or become a TV personality.
3. He can run in congress or represent sports or athletes in the goverment.
4. Produce a movie.
5. Be a businessman.
6. Be a boxing coach.
7. Find a new boxing protege and train him personally.
8. Hopefully he will doesnt have any plans in making a new album.

Freddie Roach, Manny Pacquiao's celebrated trainer, wants his ward to have two major fights before gladly seeing off the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion to finally retire from the sport.

One of the planned two bouts will take place two months from now, a third fight opposite Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12. The other, maybe in 2012 or in 2013.

"I'd this fight (Marquez)," proclaimed Roach as he finally joined Pacquiao and the rest of the gang at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in New York for the second leg of the four-city press tour promoting the 12-round showdown for the WBO 147-pound strap.

The other marquee bout of course, a face-off between the reigning and former holders of the pound-for-pound title, is the one the whole world obviously wants to see.

"And I'd like that fight (Floyd Mayweather) be done," Roach quickly added. "That would be the icing on the cake. I don't think there would be anything else to prove."

While a third Pacquiao-Marquez face-off remains quite intriguing given the controversial outcome of their first two encounters, a fight between the Filipino ring icon and the unbeaten Mayweather remains the match-up being anticipated by everyone else.

No wonder that even in the presence of Marquez, both Pacquiao and Roach had to answer questions from the media present during the occasion about the possibility of the fighting congressman from Sarangani province facing the brash-talking Mayweather.

"I want to see that fight as badly as all of you, because he's (Mayweather) a challenge and I love a challenge," Roach told reporters.

Pacquiao, 32, believes the fight expected to go down as the richest in boxing's history will definitely happen, considering the recent developments within the camp of Mayweather, who will challenge the dangerous Victor Ortiz for the World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight title on September 17.

Like Pacquiao, Ortiz is also a southpaw.

"I'm thinking right now that Floyd is preparing for our battle because he's got a southpaw opponent for his next fight," said Pacquiao, who opened the press conference by belting the 70s hit remake 'Sometimes When We Touch' in a duet with Grammy-award winner Dan Hill.

"Maybe it will come. I'd give it a possibility."

But first, Pacquiao needs to settle his unfinished business with Marrquez, the man who had been the biggest puzzle in the Filipino southpaw's brilliant career (53-3-2, 38 knockouts).

No problem with that, according to Roach.

"We have to be a little smarter. We can't walk in recklessly," said Roach in giving respect to the talent of the 38-year-old challenger (53-5-1, 39 KOs).

"But we’ll knock him out somewhere along the way," added Pacquiao's long-time trainer. — JVP, GMA News
